Soddy-Daisy man who confessed to killing his wife has charges sent to grand jury

A Soddy-Daisy man's charges that he shot and killed his wife during an argument in July have been sent to a Hamilton County grand jury after a recent preliminary hearing.

It will likely be another six to eight weeks before grand jurors decide whether they want to indict Brandon Hendricks for the July 14 killing of Joanie Hendricks. Brandon Hendricks, 37, had a preliminary hearing in Soddy-Daisy on Sept. 11, after which a judge sent his criminal homicide charge to Hamilton County's courts system.

Police say Brandon Hendricks shot and killed his wife in their car after an argument on the side of Dayton Pike. According to news accounts, officers said Brandon Hendricks took out his revolver and fired multiple shots at his wife after she told him to get out of the car. Joanie Hendricks, who worked at Middle Valley Animal Hospital, died at the scene.

The couple's 7-year-old son witnessed the slaying from the backseat, and family members were expecting the Hendrickses at a birthday party for the child, news accounts say. After the shooting, Brandon Hendricks called police, admitted to the killing and was taken into custody on a $450,000 bond.
