Chantae Cann used to sing back-up for R&B vocalists Avery Sunshine and India Arie; now she’s a headiner in her own right.

With a voice as rich and smooth as honey, Cann draws in audiences with feel-good vibes of soul music that give her a unique, authentic sound.

Thursday, Sept. 27, the songstress headlines the Levitt Amp concert at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. The free concert starts at 6 p.m.

Her 2016 debut album, “Journey to Golden” reached No. 1 on iTunes’ Jazz Charts and No. 7 on Billboard’s Jazz Charts. Follow-up sophomore album “Sol Empowered,” released in October 2017, climbed to No. 8 on Billboard’s Jazz Charts.

Influences such as Bobby McFerrin and Chaka Khan helped shape her musical style. Although her voice has received critical acclaim, Cann says singing is her “heart’s desire to simply inspire, uplift and encourage the lives of others through music.”
