Fix Airport Road, our gateway to city

I moved my family to Chattanooga in 1987. We are in love with Chattanooga and are glad we relocated here. However, I am so disgusted with the following issue.

Everyone knows the economy in Chattanooga is booming and the Chattanooga airport is busting at its seams. Why is Airport Road between Lee Highway and the airport still a rough and washboard surface? It was horrible in 1987, and it is worse in 2018. Two thousand-plus cars travel and park at our airport daily, and the road leading to the airport is still in a sad state of repair.

I love my Chattanooga town. But can anyone tell me why this road, used in a heavy manner, is still in the same condition as it was in 1987?

I hope our city leaders will see this, be shamed and will take action to repair this and many, many other roads in our town.

Bredesen economy will ‘work for me’

I have been trying to decide between the two Senate candidates. I remember Phil Bredesen as governor. I decided to evaluate them by more than party but by what they have done and what they might do for me.

Gov. Bredesen had a direct positive effect on my life. While he was governor, he brought Volkswagen to Chattanooga. The assembly plant employs 2,000 people in much-needed jobs (and has openings). When VW was announced, people were excited. It was like a breath of fresh air. I can trust Bredesen to continue to bring jobs to Tennessee and do what’s best for us.

Since Marsha Blackburn doesn’t represent my area, I decided to see what she’d done for hers. I couldn’t find much. On her website, it says she voted against the stimulus. But if it weren’t for the stimulus, many car companies would have gone out of business. I don’t know why Blackburn would be proud of denying Tennesseans relief. There is very little else she’s done in 16 years, which is frustrating.

I can trust Bredesen to get things done and help the economy work for me. That’s why I am voting for him.

Reader urges senator to wake from ‘coma’

Several weeks ago I called Lamar Alexander and suggested that aides wake him from his coma and ask him to do his job. Weeks later I received a lengthy email probably written by a Vandy undergrad intern. It was very entertaining.

I enjoyed seeing the author tie himself in knots explaining how lucky Tennesseans are to have a tax cut for giant corporations and the super rich. He even broke out the old Republican “trickle down” trope. I wonder how long it will take for Sheldon Adelson’s $777 million tax cut to trickle down to the “hollers” in Blount County.

The one sentence in the letter that really popped my cork was “I believe that the country is moving in the right direction.” That must have been a very deep coma.

This is the most corrupt administration in U.S. history. All our old problems are still with us. This pathologically lying, malignant narcissist in the White House is destroying the rule of law and our democratic principles. You are mandated by the Constitution to provide checks and balances. Come away from your self-delusion, laziness and spinelessness; do your job.
