On Oct. 2, from 5-9 p.m., 1885 will once again participate in the National Night Out, an annual celebration of local businesses that takes place in various cities across the country. Restaurant partner and manager Miguel de Jesus describes the event as a block party, and this year, he says, it will be bigger than ever.

Since year, Chattanooga’s National Night Out has been hosted only in St. Elmo. There, side streets are shut down and local merchants and street vendors line the sidewalks. 1885, centrally located in its historic heart, features live music, a pumpkin painting booth and free bowls of chili. This year will be no different, however, the event will extend into other local neighborhoods, too.

“St. Elmo is the kickoff spot,” said Miguel. “The mayor will be here to get things started.”

But even when the street party is over, 1885 keeps the excitement going with a number of new food specials. This fall, said Miguel, it’s all about Southern fusion fare; for example, Korean-style ribs made with bourbon sauce and served with chow chow, a southern-spin to kimchi – recipes so delicious, they are worthy of their very own celebration.
