Two days ago, astronomers released the first-ever image of a black hole.

To oversimplify it, a black hole is a region of space with so much gravity that nothing, including light, can escape it. So, technically, a black hole is totally invisible. What the image captures is the hole’s “shadow,” or the ring formed as light bends around the hole – right before that light is sucked into the cosmic place of no return.

At the heart of a black hole lies something called a singularity, or a point of zero size and infinite density.

Space, right? It’s a real mind-bender.

Let’s just get on with today’s stories.

Meet “Cotton Joe” Norman, the Chattanooga man who just completed a camel-back trek across a part of Saudi Arabia famous for its inhospitable sand dunes and summer temperatures peaking at 130 degrees.
