The Magic of Santa

Last week, I got a call from a reader thanking me for our coverage of Santa this month. She was especially pleased to see it, she said, after our 2018 article delving into every parent’s Christmas quandary. Wanting to help her children hold on to the magic of Santa, she had been forced to retire that issue before her kids could see it.

Whether you believe in Santa or not, this is the time of year when magic, in its many forms, abounds. When I was a child, that could be as simple as snowflakes dancing down from the sky. These days, I have different words for the magic I see every day: compassion, grace, God, forgiveness. And it turns out that’s what Santa was after all along.
