A spokeswoman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said this morning that the agency does not expect to file charges against a former Fort Oglethorpe officer, whose home they searched in October.
“[The case] has not been closed but it will be closed,” Director of Public Affairs Nelly Miles told the Times Free Press in an email.
The GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant on the officer’s home on Sage Brush Lane in Rossville on Oct. 16. The GBI did not name any suspects at the time or explain why that particular unit, which often investigates child pornography, was at the home.
After the search, Fort Oglethorpe Police Chief Mike Helton suspended the officer. Ten days later, Helton fired the officer.
The officer began working for the department in August and was still on a probationary period.
