EPB is warning its Internet customers not to click on pop-up ads that appear to come from EPB with prizes and gifts for answering a few questions.
John Pless, public relations coordinator, said the pop-ad ads offering gift cards from EPB to Walmart or Amazon are not legitimate and are apparently scams.
“EPB does not send our customers pop up messages and there are no contests that offer rewards that we send out to our customers,” Pless said, reacting to reports of a number of reported instances of the supposed prizes over the holidays. “We’re not sure of the intent, but the sender is attempting to spoof their identity as EPB, and this may be an attempt to install some type of malware or phish for data/personal info.”
EPB’s advice is simple: Don’t click on the ads.
If you have any questions about an EPB offer or communication, you should call EPB at 423-648-1372 with any questions.
