Time to remove trash from 2018
Well, it’s a new year and time to take out the 2018 trash. Interesting how trash accumulates when you allow it to. Here goes:
» Proportionality: Folks, it doesn’t matter if your party got 99 percent or 1 percent of the statewide vote. U.S. congressional and state legislative districts are not at large. Whether a liberal Democrat won a senatorial or governor race is irrelevant to the outcome of the political balance in a state legislature.
» Throwing rocks at U.S. border agents: Some people seem to think it’s hunky-dory to throw rocks at our U.S. border agents and the latter are just supposed to stand there. Get a grip! No one has a “right” to throw rocks, and tear gas is an appropriate response.
» Hollow head ammunition: Some ill-informed letter writer recently suggested the U.S. military uses hollow head instead of full jacket ammunition. Fact is that hollow head ammo is illegal in international warfare. Before spouting off, check your facts.
» Written vs living constitution: This should be easy. Who do you trust with your constitutional liberties? A justice who believes in a written Constitution or a Constitution in his own head?

Chilton’s rich research deserves our attention
What a recent writer is missing in his snarly letter to the editor (“Capitalism, not racism, behind population moves,” Tuesday, page B7) is that most of the blacks are renting. It is the white landlords making the money from gentrification and putting up the rents that are unaffordable to the working poor.
Where was this letter writer when Dr. Ken Chilton presented research and facts, and solutions were discussed?
And where were the leaders of our communities at that meeting at Westside Baptist Church? Dr. Chilton’s research should be of utmost importance to our local public officials as well as bankers and developers.

Paper veers away from core values
Dear publisher and editors, please read your Statement of Core Values, found on page A2. Your extreme left-wing bias has become no secret.
The biggest story on Saturday about our president and the Mueller investigation is buried on page 6, with a very misleading headline (“Mueller disputes story that Trump told lawyer to lie”). The story broke around 8:30 p.m. on Friday and should have been a headline on the front page of the next day’s paper.
Instead, the front page covers a very biased story about Nancy Pelosi. Do you really think she and her team could have traveled commercially to Afghanistan and kept it a secret? Of course not. Instead, blame President Trump.
Either abide by your published Core Values or change them to represent who you really are.

From TV to politicians, priorities all mixed up
I can’t believe local TV would not take a short break in televising sports, which is totally unimportant, to see what the president has to say about an extremely important problem we have (15 minutes).
A couple of people have hijacked the Democratic Party. They had rather travel around the world instead of doing their job.
People never cease to amaze me with their me-me attitude, everything my way. I am worried about my grandchildren’s world.
