Summer need for blood is acute and more letters to the editors

Letters to the Editor
Letters to the Editor Letters to the Editor

On June 16, I read on the front page of Section H of that day’s Times Free Press a photo advertisement for phlebotomists for Blood Assurance. I was reminded that it was time for me to write another letter urging readers to donate whole blood, platelets, plasma or red blood cells to the community.

Whenever I am able to give my A-positive platelets to someone else, I enthusiastically do so. Only my lack of a car of my own limits my output.

I particularly urge those who have never donated blood or blood product to do so. Please overcome your fears of needles. Summer is a season of great need.

Democrat candidates selling out country

The positions that the Democrats are taking on illegal immigration are both frightening and infuriating. Clearly, anyone who follows the issue knows that their positions are all about getting votes. These radical ideas that include decriminalizing illegal border crossings, making unlawful entry a civil crime, granting illegals federal and state benefits, and abolishing ICE are clearly selling out this country. These politicians clearly care more for their political futures and election chances than their own country.

This is scary stuff. The extreme left turn that the Democrat party has taken on immigration is going to steer this country right off a cliff into the abyss.

The hypocrisy from the left is also astonishing. In 2016, Obama was on record saying that the country should be turning away unaccompanied minors and refusing their entry into the country. For any Democrat candidate to take that position today would mean instant defeat and attacks from every liberal angle. Given the drastic shift to the left in just three short years, this country cannot possibly survive with a Democrat president in 2020.

Republican says, ‘Never Trump again’

A third-generation Republican, I know what a former KGB colonel like Putin would do to our nation with disinformation and cyber-technology during elections. Trump invited but denies Russian interference. He writes Kim Jong-un love letters. Who financed Trump’s businesses after his bankruptcies? A “self-made man” is myth.

His extreme hyperbole, lies and narcissism reveal there is no bottom to his debasement. His handpicked chief of staff called him an idiot, his secretary of state called him a moron, and his secretary of defense resigned with a protest letter.

Only Democrats support the FBI and CIA – surreal. Comity between political opponents like Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill does not exist.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, except for a few judges, what have you accomplished? Rural hospital closures, infrastructure, foreign interference – no legislative action? Republican Rep. Justin Amash, thank you for reading the Mueller report.

Trump is right about some needed action at the border and China’s unfair trade policies, but his negatives far outweigh the positives. Our party at the national level has become a Trump cult. Thinking there is no Republican better than Trump is insulting. Never Trump again.
