Playing the ‘Game of Thrones’

When the theme of “Game of Thrones” was discussed for this year’s 20 Under 40, it was widely believed it would resonate with the honorees, up-and-coming young professionals from all walks of life. A May 2019 article in USA Today states, “The fantasy series is a ratings juggernaut for HBO, and especially with the coveted, mostly millennial demographic of adults ages 18 to 49.”

As it turns out, that is not necessarily the case in Chattanooga. Sixty-five percent of our “20” reported that they were not up on the series, with most having never watched a single episode.

Still, in true GOT fashion, we decided to charge ahead. And to help match the cinematic bar set by the series, we even ramped up our presentation, partnering with the Chattanooga Theatre Centre and Jalic Blades, one of the few companies worldwide licensed to make official, collectible swords from the show and books. The owner, Chris Beasley, also gave us a peek inside his modern-day castle for the pages of this month’s magazine.

It has been said that, “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.” We hope you agree this is a win.
