The man shot and injured by Bradley County Sheriff’s deputies last week has been released from a hospital and booked into jail.
Steven Ray Handy, 49, was injured on July 5 after deputies responded to a location in the 1200 block of Chilcutt Road in Charleston, Tennessee, according to a news release. There, deputies encountered Handy, who had reportedly made threats to harm himself earlier in the day.
As deputies were speaking with Handy in an effort to get him to surrender, he produced a weapon, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Deputies fired shots, striking Handy in the leg.
Handy was transported to a Chattanooga-area hospital for treatment.
No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident, according to the TBI, which was called in to investigate the incident by 10th District Attorney General Stephen Crump.
On Friday, Handy was booked in the Bradley County Jail then released on a $10,000 bond. He’s facing six counts of aggravated assault.
