This might make you feel old: Twenty years ago today “SpongeBob SquarePants” premiered on Nickelodeon. That’s right, Spongebob, Patrick and Squidward have now been part of our pop culture for two whole decades. What’s more, for more than 17 years, the show has ranked as one of the most-watched animated programs.
Longevity aside, it’s still not the longest-running animated series. That accolade goes to “The Simpsons,” which first aired on December 17, 1989.
