Townsend Atelier invites the public to a free sculpture demonstration with local sculptor Maria Willison on Friday, July 19. The demonstration will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Townsend’s studio in The Arts Building, 301 E. 11th St.
Working from a live model, Maria will create a relief portrait in clay. The audience will watch the artist work from beginning to end, and questions are encouraged.
Light refreshments will be available.
Willison is a figurative sculptor who works in the round and in relief. She has won several awards in competitions throughout the country and has shown her work at various locations in Chattanooga.
The artist’s work is thoughtful and dynamic. She strives for perfection of anatomy and technique while maintaining strong concepts to anchor her work so that viewers can glimpse the narratives she wants to convey.
When she is not teaching workshops at Townsend Atelier or creating her own pieces, she is working on donor recognition relief tile commissions for nonprofit organizations.
