Making Memories
Research for a December 2018 Chatter article on experiences as gifts led to my mom’s birthday present to me this year: a trip to Michigan. After I finish writing this from the lobby of a La Quinta across from the Detroit airport, I will literally set sail on a visit to one of my favorite childhood places, Mackinac Island. It is like a town frozen in time. The streets are lined with charming storefronts reminiscent of the turn of the century. There is no motorized transport allowed, only your feet, bikes or, my favorite, horses.
Special experiences like this are my favorite way to celebrate, especially birthdays. To me, that special day each year is a reminder of life.
