Two South Chattanooga neighborhood-based nonprofits (one in Alton Park, the other East Lake) partnered with The Trust for Public Land to receive a 10-Minute Walk Campaign national grant. These grants focus on safe and equitable access to parks and green spaces for all people.

To celebrate their grant, a kickoff event is being held Saturday, June 22, in Alton Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Called Strut the Parks, this celebration will be open to all who live, worship, work, play in and support Alton Park.

The celebration will include family-friendly games, music, giveaways, free food and fun. Activities will take place in Milliken Park, 100 W. 45th St.; Ben Miller Park, 1059 W. 40th St.; and Southside Community Park, 3500 Central Ave.

“We invite you to join us as we celebrate the parks we have and advocate for those we envision for our community,” said Raquetta Dotley, program director for The Net Resource Foundation.

The Net Resource Foundation is a mentorship and community-building nonprofit in Alton Park. Strut the Parks will be the kickoff to the foundation’s planned year-long series of community festivals, educational activities and beautification plans.

Area churches, service agencies, businesses or neighborhood groups that want to participate should contact 423-401-0503 or thenetresourcefoundation@gmail.com.
