Acts of hate letter omitted abortion and more letters to the editors

I read with interest the community letter about acts of hate and terrorism in last Thursday’s edition of the TFP. There were 10 points describing different instances of these atrocious and evil horrors. There were 48 names of those joining to condemn these acts. Violence doesn’t discriminate; it affects everyone.

How very sad and hard to understand that the murder of thousands of babies were omitted from this list of violence and evil. The most innocent and vulnerable lives were not even mentioned. They have no way to express the pain that they feel and the sadness and torture that never end for those involved. Think about it, people! God knows each one, and he will have the final word. All evil acts are condemned by him. We must have regard for all life, for God is the creator and judge.

Moon, Mars wrong push at this time

Why is it that every Republican administration thinks when it is in trouble, the solution is to announce a return to the moon and then Mars? We already know more about the surface of the moon, and parts of the surface of Mars, than we do about the deepest parts of oceans.

When I was a kid, I was struck by an announcement oceanographers had descended into the Marianas Trench, the deepest point in the oceans. It put me on a course for a career in ocean science. One of my assignments was with a group of scientists from several federal agencies designing an ocean monitoring program. But we were stymied by the George W. Bush administration’s goal to go to Mars, which meant satellites needed to measure conditions on Earth were not funded.

Data on Earth and its oceans are increasingly important as we suffer the acceleration of climate change. But federal dollars are again being targeted to putting humans on the moon, then Mars. It serves the administration to divert attention from the disasters climate change will cause. Sadly, neither the moon nor Mars will provide us with a refuge once we make Earth inhabitable.

‘It’ (street paving) should be demanded

I know I will see it one day in my Times Free Press. I do not know exactly when, but I hope soon. “It” just cannot be put off much longer. People will soon begin to complain and demand action. What is “It” ? See below:

I will open my morning Times Free Press and realize that the day has indeed come.

“City announces major street repair and paving project.”

The work will begin in the center of town on all streets and then expand in concentric circles outward until all streets are smooth and again a pleasure to drive on.

P.S. If “It” does not come to pass, all citizens should begin to look for new city leaders. They should also ask if we even have a street maintenance plan.
