Did you know?
Mother’s Day was created in 1908 by a West Virginian woman named Anna Jarvis. Her goal was to honor the sacrifices mothers made for their children. In 1914, Jarvis finally had Mother’s Day recognized as an official U.S. holiday.
But by 1920, Jarvis believed that Mother’s Day had become too commercialized, and spent the rest of her life fighting to have it removed from the American calendar.
