The Tennessee River is arguably our crown jewel when it comes to the cityscape.

And in a way that’s thanks to the Tennessee Valley Authority Act, which was signed into law 86 years ago tomorrow. The act created TVA, now the largest public power company in the U.S., to help oversee the construction of dams.

The goal of these dams was to tame the wild Tennessee, which, historically had been non-navigable and prone to flooding – like, you know, that one time in the late 1800s when the river rose 58 feet and totally submerged our city.

Here’s a story we wrote in 2017 about that famous flood.

And here are some stories we wrote recently:

JFest, Chattanooga’s Christian music festival, returns for its 21st year tomorrow, and it will feature its biggest lineup to date.
