Softball

» Chattanooga State wound up 1-2 in the 2019 NJCAA Division I softball tournament in St. George, Utah – eliminated after 1 a.m. EDT Friday by Indian Hills, 11-9, despite a remarkable comeback effort. The Lady Tigers were 43-10 for the season. Madison Crabtree, whose three-run homer had keyed their win over Lake Land, homered again and was 2-for-2 with five RBIs against Indian Hills, which posted four-run innings in the third and fourth. Down 10-2, Chattanooga State avoided being run-ruled when Crabtree followed Haley Smith’s fifth-inning walk with a homer. Then Breanna Vinson doubled in a run with one out in the sixth, an error and Smith being hit by a pitch loaded the bases and Crabtree cleared them with a two-out double. Indian Hills’ fourth homer of the game off pitchers Abby Wall and Brooke Parrott made the score 11-8, but Shelby Penning began the bottom of the seventh with a walk and Lauren Hamby doubled her home. The game ended with Lady Tigers on third and second. Hamby was 2-for-3 and Vinson was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
