Casada’s errors must have been known and more letters to the editors

Are we, the Tennessee voters, to believe the Tennessee General Assembly knew nothing about Speaker Glen Casada’s character before May 2019, when WTVF-Nashville reported allegations of misconduct?

He was elected to the state legislature in 2001. The legislature is a close-knit, elite club. I would doubt there is very much that is unknown among this group. This group elected him speaker in January 2019.

Would he still be speaker if the television station and other media outlets had not reported these missteps made by Casada and his chief of staff, which happened several years ago?

How about positive church news in TFP?

There has been a lot of negativity written about the church, and a lot of it comes from this newspaper.

I know that churches are not perfect and, yes, there is room for improvement; however the church is the greatest organization that any person could ever be a part of.

Each and every day there are millions who are fed, clothed and provided for through the leadership, generosity and love of a local church.

As the pastor of a local Baptist church, I can say that the number of people who have been clothed, fed and cared for by our church is astronomical. No church likes to exalt itself for fear of sounding like a braggart.

Just because there has been some bad publicity with a few Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, etc., it is minuscule compared with all the wonderful things churches do.

I for one am sick and tired of hearing people criticize, condemn and make light of the Lord’s church.

Pam, what about you, Clay, David, and a few others write some uplifting stories about the church? Why not accentuate the positives rather than highlighting the negatives?

Fox News no truth pinnacle

A recent letter to the editor slandered viewers of ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN or any liberal newspaper reader, pronouncing Fox News Channel (FNC) as the pinnacle of news broadcasting, where truth prevails. As one of the American majority voting against Mr. Trump, I take exception to the letter’s unsubstantiated FNC declaration as a bastion of truth.

In 2009, FNC reported nine hours of hard-news coverage with no claims to other programming. The current weekly FNC program staffing is 56% commentators/contributors supplying editorial, commentarial opinion.

FNC formerly promoted a Sean Hannity Uranium One portrayal accusing Hillary Clinton of accepting Russian bribes for the Clinton Foundation. FBI and federal attorney investigations found no wrongdoing.

After the Benghazi attack, FNC broadcast 1,098 segments over 20 months. Six Republican House committee investigations found no incriminating evidence, yet FNC still raises the issue.

Prior to 2000, FNC was non-political, but in 2004, FNC’s ideological leaning commenced with the John Kerry “Swift Boat” coverage, followed by overwhelming bias during the Obama presidential elections and the 2016 Clinton campaign.

FNC has shielded President Trump from revolving door resignations, the national emergency immigration travesty, Russian voter influence, climate change and racial bigotry. Truth?
