A downtown Chattanooga restaurant received a low mark this week after a Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspection.
Mike’s Smokehouse at 3147 S. Broad Street received a score of 79 after an inspection found a lack of managerial control over foodborne illness risk factors.
The inspection found pork being held at 62 degrees Fahrenheit for over five hours in the walk in cooler. Proper cooling methods for food were also not provided.
Additionally, various food products were found uncovered/unprotected in the walk in freezer. Personal beverages were found on food preparation surfaces and wet wiping cloths were stored on working surfaces instead of sanitizer solution.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspects restaurants twice a year and grades the businesses on a 100-point scale. Scores below 70 require corrective action.
Restaurants are reinspected if they fail to meet critical standards. To file a health-related complaint, call the Department of Environmental Health at 209-8110. The scores are original and do not reflect on-the-spot changes, which sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
