A 45-year-old man that was struck Thursday night by a vehicle near the intersection of McCallie Avenue and Willow Street has died from his injuries, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

A news release states that the man, Shantel Hooks, was walking east on the sidewalk of McCallie Avenue when he attempted to cross the street, not using the marked crosswalk at the intersection.

A 45-year-old man was driving a Kia SUV west on McCallie Avenue and told police he did not see Hooks and was unable to stop before hitting him, the release states.
