A suspect remains on the loose after crashing a car while fleeing from police and then leaving his passenger to die, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

Twenty-three-year-old Douglas C. Gass, 23, crashed a vehicle while fleeing Monday from the Forth Oglethorpe Police Department on Monday, the release states. The crash happened at 2609 East 38th St. at 11:06 p.m.

"Gass left his passenger to die from injuries sustained in the crash," the release states.

The news release did not identify the passenger.

Because the crash and subsequent fatality occurred within the city of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Police Department's Traffic Unit responded to take over the investigation. Warrants are on file for multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, through Chattanooga Police Department and Georgia law enforcement agencies.

Anyone with information regarding Gass's whereabouts or the crash, is asked to contact the Chattanooga Police Department at (423) 698-2525 or submit an anonymous tip using the free Chattanooga PD app. Anyone providing information can remain anonymous.
