Grocery shoppers who want to pick up beer and wine along with bread and milk without ever taking off their seat belts have some new options.
Walmart is adding the service at 14 stores in the Chattanooga area as part of the expansion of its grocery pickup service. With the addition of Tennessee to the program, the option to pick up beer and wine as part of a Walmart grocery order is now available in 2,000 locations in 29 states.
Food City already offered the service in the locations where it provides grocery pickup, said Teresa Coker, the GoCart coordinator at the Food City at 5604 Hixson Pike.
“We do that all the time, and we check the license at the time they pick up the order,” Coker said. “If you can buy it in this store, it’s available for pickup, as long as you have a valid driver’s license and you’re old enough.”
Local laws that limit the sale of alcohol during certain hours apply to the pickups – there won’t be any grab-and-go beer pickups on Sunday mornings, for example.
Options for grocery-getting with less effort have expanded steadily in Chattanooga through services like Instacart and Shipt, which partners with stores including Pubix, Aldi and EarthFare to deliver groceries to shoppers’ doors.
