On July 18, a man in Whitfield County called 911 after his 1-year-old son had fallen into a pool and wasn’t breathing.

The dispatcher who answered the call, Nicole Talman, kept her composure and walked the man through the steps for CPR.

Talman and the man stayed on the phone until the Dalton Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived and because of Talman’s quick acting and the father’s actions, the child was already breathing on his own when responders got there.

Talman was recently awarded with a Citizen Recognition Award at the Dalton Public Safety Commission meeting by Dalton Fire Chief Todd Pangle.

“Our 911 dispatchers do a great job helping to keep our community safe,” Pangle said. “It was because of her professionalism, training, knowledge, and ability to remain calm during a stressful situation that the story has a happy ending.”
