How can Trump’s base still support him? and more letters to the editors

Trump failed to take action in advance to protect our country from the coronavirus, joining with Hannity and Limbaugh that this was all a political conspiracy, i.e., coronavirus is no worse than the seasonal flu. He suppressed coronavirus testing.

Trump varies from denial to wishful thinking, having said the coronavirus is “very well under control.” The stock market responded by hitting the skids.

Contrast Trump on this with Britain Prime Minister Boris Johnson warning citizens that coronavirus would spread throughout the United Kingdom, and all should be prepared to lose loved ones.

Surely even Trump’s base of support will hold him accountable.

Juan Williams of Fox News believes they should.

TFP sends mixed messages on unity

Chattanooga Times editorial page Editor Pam Sohn is a hypocrite. A recent front page led with a big, bold newspaper statement, “When you’re on your own, we are there with you.” But on the Times’ editorial page, (B6), there was a piece on Trump’s brainwashed followers.

In this time of crisis, Democrats cannot work with deplorables.

Very sad example of being “with you.” Us. November.

Protect horses and pass PAST Act now

Hopefully President Trump was erring on the side of caution when he failed to finalize the updating of the Horse Protection Act. This is a no-brainer. The only ones wanting to see these beautiful animals tortured by “soring” are the “Big Lick” industry proponents who were left to police themselves.

The USDA wants this law to be signed as do all compassionate animal lovers. Please contact the White House and your U.S. representatives and senators and urge them to pass the PAST Act.

GOP suppresses legal voting

Republican legislators claim they want to prevent illegal voting, although there have been few incidents of illegal voting in Tennessee. I think Republican legislators actually suppress legal voting.

The Tennessee Legislature [Republican super majority] passed and a Republican Gov. signed a law requiring a photo ID to vote. A person may have been qualified and voting for decades, but if he has no photo ID, he can no longer vote. Some may say, “What’s the big deal? He can show his driver license.” Sure he can, if he has a drivers license. But not everyone in Tennessee drives.

Some may say, “Again, no big deal. All he has to do is get a photo ID.” Easier said than done. There are 95 counties in Tennessee, but in only 37 counties can one get a photo ID. If he lives in one of the 58 counties, where he can’t get a photo ID, he has to somehow get to another county, but he can’t drive there, because he doesn’t have a driver license, which is why he needs a photo ID to vote. Catch 22.

Voting is a constitutional right, which Republicans suppress.
