Typically our sports writers would spend much of their work days covering games on dusty ballfields or interviewing athletes and coaches in a locker room.
Right now the sports world would be in the midst of one of the busiest times of the year – complaining about our March Madness brackets being busted and looking forward to what would be the Final Four this weekend. Major League Baseball would be a week into its season, the Masters would be teeing off next week, college football spring practice would be in full gear and high schools throughout Tennessee and Georgia would be racing toward state tournaments in baseball, soccer, softball, tennis and track and field.
Instead our staff, like you, our readers, is adjusting to staying home as we find creative ways to tell the remaining sports stories that affect our area. And hopefully, with everyone teaming up by following the direction of medical experts to combat the spread of COVID-19, we can all soon return to those dusty fields, with the sun on our shoulders, the smell of fresh-cut grass and the simple pleasure of taking in a ballgame.
