Hamilton County COVID-19 response leaves many in the dark and more letters to the editors

I am appalled at how Hamilton County is handling this outbreak. No information. Little testing. No nothing.

My question is why? The news conferences are uninformative and leave everyone more confused. We are one of the largest counties in Tennessee but we can’t figure out how to take care of our own. I know someone who was sick for 16 days with typical disease symptoms. Couldn’t get a test but tried many times. That’s just what I’m wondering. Where was the ball dropped?

Curtailing civil rights a dangerous precedent

It is embarrassing how quickly and quietly we allowed low-level politicians and lifelong bureaucrats to shut us down and pass “orders” that meant we could not do business or freely move around.

My fear is once that door is opened, once they see how easily the herd can be corralled and controlled, we may never get our freedoms back.

Those at high risk should have been sheltered, while the rest of us went about our lives – with sensible precautions. The damage done to our way of life may not ever be repaired, particularly the longer we allow this to happen.

About 7,000 people die every day in this country. That’s tragic. Millions of people are unemployed or have lost their businesses. That’s a true crisis.

When the fear of dying becomes so great we are afraid to live, that is not life.

Cable ‘news’ shows will feed your worldview

In response to the writer of the Thursday letter, “Trump, Fox News need to go now,” if you don’t like what Fox News has to say, change the channel. I hate to watch CNN or MSNBC. I get so disgusted with their slanted view of the Trump administration that I can’t stand to watch it.

It’s amazing. I watch the COVID-19 news conference every day. When it’s over, I turn on CNN or MSNBC and can’t believe that their reporters were listening to the same news conference that I just watched. Everything they say reflects their views. I’m old enough to remember when news shows actually reported the news and not what some liberal reporter writes what he heard according to his view of Mr. Trump.

To the letter writer, change the channel. You have many other choices that will align with what you want to hear.

How can anyone not know Trump lies to us?

Here’s what would most certainly be rejected as a letter to the editor, but someone should read it:

Thank you to the writer of last Sunday’s letter, “Don’t use ‘liar’ label without proof,” and your apologies for our president, who, like Abe, does not lie. After reading your letter, I chuckled to see someone defend this buffoon. Imagine, readers, that some people think Trump does not lie.

Wouldn’t it be a neat reveal to see the president’s college transcript? I’ll bet there were no science classes listed for our leader, judging from what comes out his mouth when he speaks of climate change or infectious diseases.

It would also be a tell to see the letter writer’s transcript as well, and find out what area his doctorate pertains.

Who’d have thought that Trump’s stock would actually be rising from the day he announced COVID-19 was just a hoax, only as serious as a cold? Only in America …
