Judge dismisses part of Volkswagen case

A federal judge has dismissed part of a civil fraud case against Volkswagen AG, a ruling that validated the company’s claims that regulators piled on with a 2019 lawsuit over its emissions scandal, according to MarketWatch.

Volkswagen was caught using software to evade U.S. emissions requirements for diesel cars. The scandal has cost the company $34 billion in fines and settlements, the Associated Press said.

Tennessee officials recently announced they’re using $5.7 million from the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal settlement for transit bus replacements in three cities, including Chattanooga.

Credit union donates $3,600 for Chromebooks

The Chattanooga Federal Employees Credit Union has donated $3,600 to Westview Elementary School in Chattanooga for the purchase of new Google Chromebooks for the 2020-21 school year.

While Chattanooga Federal has a long history of supporting local schools through back-to-school supply drives, the changing learning environment for schools during the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the credit union to support the advancement of technology at Westview Elementary this school year.

Mark Fraker, chief executive officer of Chattanooga Federal, said he has “a passion for the Chattanooga community and the value of education for our cities youth. As a not-for-profit financial institution, we are proud to come along side a local school and provide tools for success this upcoming school year.”

Chattanooga Federal Employees Credit Union has served the Chattanooga area since 1925 making it the oldest credit union in the region.
