Cooper’s Eye on the Left: Biden administration won’t shatter glass ceiling because Trump team already did it

Trump administration already did it

For the first time in history, the Biden-Harris Presidential Transition tweeted last week, “senior [White House] communications roles” “will be filled entirely by women.”

“It is the first time all of the top aides tasked with speaking on behalf of an administration and shaping its message will be female,” The Washington Post wrote. Similarly, The Associated Press said, “It is the first time the entire senior White House communications team will be entirely female.” But they only needed look at the current White House staff to see it wasn’t the first time.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted that the Trump White House “already has an ALL FEMALE Senior White House Press Team.” In fact, she added, so does Vice President Mike Pence, so does first lady Melania Trump and so does second lady Karen Pence. And women have replaced other women in those roles during the administration.

The Trump and Biden White Houses, like all administrations, will be different in how they title their aides, so the comparison may be slightly apples to oranges, a fact even the Post grudgingly admitted, saying that “reasonable people can disagree about whether those [Biden appointments] are technically senior roles.”
