Greetings, outdoorspeople!

  • Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 52, cloudy, possible late shower/Sunday; high 51, early showers then clearing
  • Recommended adventure: Star-gaze – or, more aptly, planet-gaze – this Monday during the winter solstice. At twilight, look toward the western sky where Saturn and Jupiter will appear unusually close, separated by only 0.1 degree and visible around the globe. Their proximity, some say, will make the planets appear as one star, heralded as the “Christmas Star.” But nobody knows what it will look like for certain. This cosmic phenomenon has not occurred since 1226. Learn more in this EarthSky article.
  • Most interesting thing we recently learned: Humans are still evolving, evidenced by changes in our body temperature, genes and bones. Here’s what Science Times wrote about it.
