The Baylor boys’ basketball team has received a jolt of late from Troy Boynton.

The 6-foot-4 senior guard was tough on the drive and sharp with his jumper Friday night, when he scored all 22 of his points from inside the arc to lead the Red Raiders to an 85-55 home victory over Rockvale.

A first-year transfer from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Boynton has scored 73 points during Baylor’s three-game winning streak that has followed a season-opening loss. He signed last month with the University of Evansville (Indiana), a Division I program in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Red Raiders scored at least 22 points in each quarter Friday as Cameron Sparks (16 points), Evan Haynie (14) and Robert Morton (11 points) contributed to a season-best offensive performance. Haynie was 8-for-10 on free throws.

Baylor, which reached the Division II-AA semifinals last season, is on its streak despite missing standout post presences in all-state center Nick Kurtz and Al Peciulis, both currently out injured.

Heritage 58, Gordon Lee 27: Cooper Terry scored a game-high 16 points to lead Heritage (6-4), and Mitchell Kennedy added 10 in the road win. Will Carswell had 11 points for Gordon Lee, which was held to a combined seven points in the first and third quarters.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Rockmart 69, Ringgold 63: Riley Nayadley scored 20 points, Maggie Reed 19 and Baileigh Pitts 10 as the Lady Tigers (6-2) lost at home.

Pickens 51, Trion 40: Libby Brown, with 11 points, was the only double-figure scorer for the Lady Bulldogs as they dropped to 6-2.

Trion 72, Ridgeland 48: On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs set a season high in points as Summer Vaughn led all scorers with 16, I’ziah McCutchins added 12 and 10 other players scored for Trion.
