Intents and Purposes
In our March 2019 issue, I wrote about my intention to get my pittie mix, Scarjo, certified as a therapy dog. I am embarrassed to report that I have not followed through on that goal.
But I have started volunteering with the Humane Educational Society, and those several hours of one-on-one time with the dogs each week have brought me more joy and purpose than I could’ve imagined. In a year of limited human contact, their eager eyes and wagging tails have been a salve for my soul – and the framework for my intention to volunteer more in the coming year.
So, check back for progress on that initial goal, and read on for a glimpse of the healing therapy dogs can impart. If ever there was a need for connection and affection, it is now.
