Adventure in a State Park

Very early in my relationship with my partner, Jon, he went on an assignment with me for our sister magazine, Get Out Chattanooga. For my December 2015 article “Adventure in a State Park,” we headed to Panola Mountain State Park just past Atlanta to camp and play archery tag, one of the park’s more unique sounding activities.

It turned out to be the coldest weekend of that year, and archery tag was canceled due to all the rain just prior, but it remains one of my favorite trips together. People often say travel is one of the best ways to truly get to know someone. That makes camping the ultimate trial. All the distractions and comforts of daily life are stripped away, leaving just you, your wits, your stress response and a whole lot of nature to lose – and find – yourself in.

For a roundup of some other nearby state parks worth a visit, check out our first story below.
