THIS WEEK IN EDUCATION NEWS
The Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center officially opened in Chattanooga this past weekend. The center is meant to celebrate the medal – the highest military honor – which has been awarded to nearly 3,500 people since its creation.
One of the main missions of the national center is to educate students and work with area schools and school districts across the state of Tennessee.
Civics education is a focus for many lawmakers and state officials, including Gov. Bill Lee and Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn, and the actual Medal of Honor Center features an interactive education program so students can learn about the recipients and their shared values of citizenship, commitment, courage, integrity, patriotism and sacrifice.
But how can center officials and local educators teach those values and what other plans does the center have for reaching educators across the state of Tennessee?
Keep reading for more on the center’s efforts and other important education news.
