With a name inspired by the color of the most expensive Italian flour, Grey Flower Deli puts an emphasis on quality.
“Everything’s fresh and homemade, and you can smell it when you walk in the door,” said Stacy Hodges, who owns and operates the business along with his wife, son and three daughters.
“We wanted to start a family business that we all could enjoy and spend more time together as a family,” added Hodges, who has worked in restaurants since he was 18.
The family lives a few miles down the road from the Apison deli, just over the Georgia line, and every member has daily responsibilities at the restaurant, he said.
Grey Flower offers hot hoagies, specialty sandwiches, and homemade sides and desserts.
The deli uses high quality Boar’s Head meats and cheeses which, like the veggies, are sliced fresh, Hodges said. The restaurant also smokes its own meats over oak and cherry woods, rotating on a weekly basis among different meats such as turkey, pork and albacore tuna.
“We can satisfy the construction workers with our meats, and we also have healthier choices for those people who are on their New Year’s resolutions,” he said.
Hodges said one of the deli’s most popular items is the meatloaf sandwich, made from his wife Kristy’s grandmother’s recipe. Kristy’s own favorites include the smoked tuna jalapeno sandwich and the red velvet cake, while daughter Addy said she’s a fan of the taco salad.
Open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Grey Flower Deli is at 10930 London Lane in Apison and can be reached at 236-5050.
