A sixth-grade student was arrested Monday for bringing an unloaded gun to school in Trion, Georgia, according to the Trion Police Department.
The school was put on lockdown after Trion police and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department were called at about noon Monday, police said.
The boy had an unloaded pistol in his backpack. Trion Police Chief David Gilleland said a concerned student alerted the office at the middle school about the gun. The office alerted a student resource officer with the information shortly after.
Law enforcement put the campus on lockdown as a precaution, and no real threat was made, police said. Lockers were searched and students were interviewed.
The student with the unloaded weapon was arrested and the lockdown ended by 1 p.m.
The student is being turned over to juvenile justice and the investigation is continuing with both Trion police and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department.
