Walker County will be distributing 2,000 free face masks in an initiative called "Mask Up Monday" in its ongoing effort to slow the transmission of the novel coronavirus, according to a news release.
The event will be held on Monday, July 27, at the Walker County Civic Center located at 10052 Highway 27 in Rock Spring, Georgia.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. residents can drive-up and receive four masks for an individual person or eight masks per vehicle while supplies last.
"We want to make it easy for residents who want to 'mask up' to have access to this tool to combat coronavirus," said Chief Blake Hodge, Walker County Emergency Management Director, in a statement.
The release states that the masks are one size fits all, 100% cotton and are machine washable up to 15 times.
According to CDC guidelines, the spread of COVID-19 can be reduced when cloth face coverings are used along with other preventative measures, such as social distancing, hand washing and frequently cleaning high touch surfaces.
While there is currently no mask mandate in Walker County, face coverings are recommended by the county at many public locations.
