Man arrested after police chase, crash into deputy vehicle

A man has been arrested Tuesday after a police chase from the 500 block of Signal Mountain Boulevard to Marion County, Tennessee, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Police say Eric Hayes Tyra, 37, led authorities on a chase around 2:20 a.m. and that his vehicle "violently hit" Deputy Jordan Long-Ross' open driver's door as Long-Ross was exiting his car.

Long-Ross shot at Tyra, but Tyra was not struck by gunfire. Tyra was then arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail, the release states.

Tyra has been charged with felony reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license and violation of light law.

This investigation is being conducted by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
