The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will close its Chamber Series season with a collaboration with Chattanooga Ballet to present "Apollo and Jupiter" on Sunday afternoon, March 15.

The concert will feature Mozart's grand and energetic Symphony No. 41 ("Jupiter") and 19th-century composer Felix Mendelssohn's Konzertstuck No. 1 in F minor for Clarinet. The latter piece will highlight the talent of CSO musicians Robert West and Steve Tonkinson.

The Chattanooga Ballet will perform new choreography for "Apollo Musagète," Stravinsky's neoclassical ballet depicting the Greek god of music, Apollo, who is visited by three muses: Terpsichore, muse of dance and song; Polyhymnia, muse of mime; and Calliope, muse of poetry.

"Stravinsky's work is synonymous with choreographic great George Balanchine, so taking on a new interpretation is a daunting and humbling experience," says Brian McSween, Chattanooga Ballet artistic director.

"It is important that Chattanooga Ballet present a work that is quintessentially its own, and that the city of Chattanooga has arts organizations willing to take on new creative endeavors and partnerships. I am very proud of our dancers and the extent to which they have invested themselves physically and artistically. I am confident in them, and confident the audience will greatly enjoy the afternoon," McSween said.

Seating for the concert is general admission. Ticketholders are invited to attend a post-concert talk immediately following the performance.

Tickets may purchased by calling the CSO box office at 423-267-8583.
