Dear readers,

In the coming weeks, the reporters and editors here at the Times Free Press hope to bring you insight on how we are reporting about the coronavirus inside and outside of the newsroom. In this newsletter, we will try and provide dispatches from the field from our reporters and editors who are covering COVID-19 in an attempt to be transparent about how we approach reporting and writing about a pandemic in our local community.

Covering the virus over the past few weeks has felt a lot like covering a hurricane, which I had experience doing as a reporter in Florida. We are constantly balancing breaking news updates with thorough reporting that answers complex questions. The only difference is that we don't know when this will end, but we will continue to work hard to help you feel prepared and informed.

If you think we could be doing something better, or you want to send some positive energy our way, please reach out to me and let me know at acollins@timesfreepress.com.

We appreciate your support.

- Allison Collins, digital and engagement editor
