A 19-year-old Mormon missionary from Utah was killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident in LaFayette, Georgia, on Saturday night.

McKay Bergeson was riding his bike with a friend Saturday evening north along Georgia 1 when he was struck by a passing four-door sedan, according to the Georgia State Patrol. At 9:35 p.m., Georgia State Patrol was called to the scene, where Bergeson was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. The vehicle had not been located as of Monday morning.

Bergeson had been serving in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission, according to a statement from Daniel Woodruff, spokesperson for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
