In 2008, Norway knighted a king penguin to honor the animal as the royal guard’s mascot. Sir Nils Olav resides at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland and is regularly visited by soldiers. Each time the King’s Guard returns to the zoo, Nils receives a promotion. Most recently, he was given the new title of brigadier.
