What is self-care?
I recently heard a podcast in which country music star LeAnn Rimes laid out some of the ways she cares for herself daily. It made me reflect on the concept of self-care. It’s a term that gets thrown around a lot, but it’s one that I still struggle with.
What exactly constitutes self-care?
I’ve always thought of it in grand terms: the monthly massages I get; the pedicures I don’t; the time spent decompressing with a book, rather than the hurried bite-sized snippets I can fit in on my dog walks – which, coincidentally, is when I listened to that podcast.
Following two very long weeks of big projects that ravaged my sleep hours, mini morning routine, dinner plans, even shower schedule, I had a newfound respect for the small acts of self-care that make up our daily lives whether we realize it or not. This past Sunday, once all the dust had settled on my projects, I realized it was the first shower in a long time where I wasn’t concerned with time. And that predates those project-packed two weeks.
