New year, new you

I don’t know about you, but the beginning of this year threw me into an emotional tailspin. One of the reasons, I finally realized, has to do with our first story below.

I am a social person. I also like to stay busy. Last fall, once I’d finally accepted and acclimated to “the new normal,” I began to look for ways to satisfy my extroverted self within the parameters imposed by the pandemic.

I signed up for an anti-racism class being taught virtually. I decided to finally act on the Beyonce visions in my head and take a socially distanced hip-hop dance class. I even pushed my limits (and Beyonce-ness) with small-group pole dancing workouts.

Then the holidays hit and sessions ended, schedules changed.

It wasn’t until talking with a friend last week that I realized how much I missed those activities – measured breaks from my thoughts, my house, my “new normal.”

Whether you’re looking to get your “new you” on or get out of the house, read on for some suggestions perfect for the time of year when most resolutions fail. (Yep, a study of over 800 MILLION people predicts that most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions on Jan. 19.)
