A woman from Dayton, Ohio, is being charged with vehicular homicide after she allegedly hit a man from South Carolina as he was standing on the shoulder of Interstate 75 in Whitfield County.
In the early morning hours on Monday, the Georgia State Patrol got a call about a two-vehicle crash on I-75 near mile marker 327 in Whitfield County.
Alexis Renee Scott, 30, was driving a 2018 Tesla and was headed north in the outside lane. A 2012 Ford F-550 was parked on the east shoulder facing north. Scott veered into the shoulder and collided with the rear of the Ford truck, police said, and the driver of the Ford - 46-year-old Alvin Crisp - was standing to the left of his truck in the shoulder.
Scott's Tesla continued moving after hitting the Ford and hit Crisp, according to the incident report.
Scott's Tesla then crossed all three lanes of travel and hit a guardrail and came to an uncontrolled resting spot on the opposite shoulder, the report said.
Crisp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Scott was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol after it was found she was under the influence of multiple substances, according to an incident report.
The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting in the investigation.
Scott is being charged with DUI, first-degree felony vehicular homicide and failure to stay in her lane.
