- Recommended adventure: Hit the trails with your doggo and begin to train. Lula Laker Race Series next race is designed for runners and their leashed dogs. Taking place on Saturday, July 10, the 5K course cuts through Lula Lake’s scenic core preserve and includes a 700-foot elevation gain. - Most interesting thing we recently learned: Chattanooga’s most unassuming nature sanctuary is getting renovated. Tucked beneath Veterans Bridge, McClellan Island features 8.8 acres of primitive urban wilderness and is accessible via water only. Now, thanks to a grant received by the Chattanooga Audubon Society, the island can expect camp enhancements, trail improvements, new picnic tables and canoes for guided tours.
