One of the quintessential dishes for tomorrow’s holiday is soda bread. Google it (which I had to) and you’ll get everything from a straightforward loaf made with buttermilk to variations that incorporate caraway and raisins.
Coincidentally, one of the pastimes to (re)emerge during the pandemic is bread making. A May article in The Atlantic recalls the grocery store shortages from the early days of quarantine – chief among them: flour, which far outlasted the runs on toilet paper and Lysol, it says.
“But why bread?” asks a HuffPost article from July that examines the same phenomenon.
While that article posits some insight, we want to hear from you. And we know you’re out there.
Did you perfect a sourdough from scratch? Dust off that banana bread recipe of your grandmother’s? Experiment with focaccia? Email jbardoner@timesfreepress.com for a story we’re working on, now that flour is back in stock.
