Greetings, outdoorspeople!

  • Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 75, afternoon showers; Sunday; high 69, morning showers
  • Recommended adventure: Have your pup sworn in as an Obed BARK Ranger. Next time you bring your furry friend to walk the trails at Obed Wild and Scenic River area, stop by the visitor center and pick up a copy of the activity checklist. Dogs that complete the short and easy program are eligible to earn a special BARK Ranger collar tag.
  • Most interesting thing we recently learned: A bird believed to be extinct for 170 years was recently spotted in Borneo. The black-browed babbler was last captured by researchers sometime between 1843 and 1848 – which was the first and only sighting of the songbird species. In fact, the bird has become known as “the biggest enigma in Indonesian ornithology.” Most believed it had gone extinct – until last October when another specimen, alive and well, was discovered.
